The theme of the Italian Pavillion was "Cristoforo Colombo: the ship and the ocean" so we were asked to make a very large canvas accompanying the whole exhibition.

Below: a detail of one of the canvases that shows an accurate rendering of the ocean bottom from Spain to Cuba along Colombo's route (data from the American Nautical maps).- LR
